DON’T WAIT….CELEBRATE….CREATE

Don’t Wait….Celebrate….Create…!!!

4/30/20

One of the most difficult consequences of the pandemic is the loss of traditional celebrations, like birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, etc…  We simply have been robbed of special, one-time milestones and accomplishments that will not come again.  There are basically three schools of thought when it comes to how individuals or groups can approach what to do in these circumstances.

ONE:  Nothing.  Simply let the date of the celebration or accomplishment simply pass by with nothing being done.  Bah humbug..!!  I’m definitely not in favor of this choice.

TWO:  Reschedule.  Put off the event or celebration and plan to recognize and celebrate at a later date when the world returns to the new normal.  Ehhhh….ok, but still would not be my favorite.

THREE:  Celebrate.  Create.  Decide you are going to celebrate the occasion on the date originally planned, in your own way, within the pandemic restrictions, even if you have to be a bit creative.  I very much like this choice.  Sure, it may not be ideal in some ways, and you may have to settle for less, but the nature of choosing to continue “living” is much better than putting “living” off until who knows when.

In our family, we had an 18th birthday, celebrated in fantastic fashion with a wonderful meal, cake, ice cream, gift openings …and of course, a full out on-line virtual Zoom birthday with about 20 family members from all over the country.  It was nice.  We found ourselves lingering on Zoom for hours as we caught up with everyone and how they are doing.

We also have two graduations coming up.  Our daughter, Lexi, is graduating from high school in late May.  You can bet we will have a graduation, and it will be on the scheduled day.   Next week, our oldest daughter, Taylor, graduates from optometry school.  We are for sure going to celebrate, graduate, and throw a party next weekend..!!

Mentally, emotionally, and relationally the best option during this pandemic is to …..Celebrate and Create ….whatever you were planning to or would have normally done.  It will be fun, and you will certainly feel better doing so.  Happy Celebrating..!!!
